For Emanuela

Gunilla is starting this fundraiser for her older sister, Emanuela, after devastating flooding destroyed Emanuela’s basement for the second time in less than three months. After months of petitioning the city of Fairfield for help with flood mitigation related to unmanaged local waterways and the flood risk in the area, those requests have gone unanswered. Emanuela has also corresponded with city officials on behalf of the entire neighborhood, trying to get attention and support for everyone affected. Last night’s rain brought floodwaters all the way up to the ceiling in the basement. The damage was catastrophic: the basement was destroyed, the ceiling collapsed, electrical panels were damaged, and thousands of dollars worth of belongings were ruined.

The funds raised will help Emanuela with the immediate cleanup, including the cost of a dumpster, repairs to the basement, and work to make the space more water resistant moving forward. Donations will also help cover expenses that insurance does not. Gunilla is asking for whatever anyone can spare. It does not need to be a large amount, and every contribution will make a real difference. Most of all, this support will help Emanuela handle the urgent cleanup without having to rely entirely on emergency savings, especially with the fear that this could happen again.
